Are You Okay? was devised by the YOUTH members in response to the question ‘What is important to you NOW?’ Feedback ranged from mental health to the price of Freddos, from gun crime to the film ‘IT’ and The group improvised freely around these topics. Their scenes were then dissected and experimented with using movement exercises, visual stimuli and music. The hope was that our YOUTH members felt empowered by being invited to create theatre with themselves at the core of the work, allowing the piece to resonate more with them.
The show was a huge success with parents commenting on how ‘energised’ and ‘together‘ it was and how great it was to see their child so ‘engaged with the work they are performing in.’
The young actors did themselves proud, delivering a slick and well-crafted performance. We hope to devise more work in the future but will be working on scripted performances next term.
There are still places on next term’s ten week block of sessions. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org to book.
